@MecanicalCH:
Are you kidding? that's like a major requirement these days. It's more important to be an performer these days than a graduate!

To be fair I should have had a list of shortcuts at the ready for my interviewers. Shockingly, they really value speed and accuracy when it comes to answering questions. So, really, it's not all that different from math.

In fact, math is one big shortcut. Think about it... a precise, one size fists all, step by step process to decision making. And, you only check your work "after" a crisis, problem, concern, or issue has a occurred as a result of blind faith and shared ignorance. Instead of using inductive reasoning or common sense to head off problems before they occur, you can then justify your solution or actions in every step using empirical evidence, axioms, and memetic formulas proven by science... and certified by people who had enough money, knowledge, and skill to pass a test.

And, only then, through copying successful actions will you find vindication.

EDIT: to be fair, math is important when trying to prove something that would otherwise be unverifiable... But, if it's not verifiable you cannot convince others to follow through without faith anyway so wouldn't be easier to cut out the middle man and just rely on faith? At this point the subject of math is the shorthand for distraction.
